LA HISTORIA DE UN SIGLO
In Catalonia, from 1855 onwards,
various factors generate an industrial expansion.
In the interior of
Catalonia, due to the shortage of internally produced coal
and the very high cost of importing it from Great Britain,
a flourishing textile industry was born, which used the rivers
'waterfalls to operate their machines' hydraulic drives.
In this scene,
Blas Aguilar, a young man of twenty born in Vic -a town in this
interior Catalonia- decides to move to Barcelona. He starts
working in a haberdashery in Calle Princesa and begins to sell
thread manufactured in the textile factories in the area he
comes from.
His intuitive
capabilities, made him realise quickly which were the needs of
his customers, so that before long he shifted to selling machine
accessories and, assited by the fact that he could talk and write
in French, he began to search for them beyond the border.
In 1876 Mr. Blas
Aguilar makes the step which will mark the onset of our business:
he moves to Calle Caspe n. 32 and starts officially, under the
trade name of Blas Aguilar, the representation of accessories
and textile materials, very particularly in the branches of spinning
and finishing.
In 1900 the offices
were moved to Calle Vergara n. 3.
In
1901, his son Luciano Aguilar Ollich, who also spoke French, joins
the business.
In 1906, the
company moves to Rambla de Catalunya 38
